10/8, 2019

Parents: After checking home learning packets yesterday I am finding that many students are getting an INCOMPLETE because of the following: *sentences for HF words and/or Spelling words are NOT being done or not completed

                                              * Parents are not writing the lesson(s) that are being done for I-Ready. Some of you are only

writing the scores. I need both scores and names of lessons.

                                              * When a sheet is given to practice writing the letter of the week. All rows must be                                                                    completed.

Some parents are forgetting to sign the front cover, I will not send packets back home once they are collected to complete them. That is why home learning is assigned Monday thru Thursday; You have Friday and the weekend to review that all has been completed.

I am aware that 2 parents have contacted me regarding not being able to log into I-Ready and getting a message that states "there are no lessons assigned". I checked here at school and saw the problem and contacted the AP in charge who has already fixed the problem. Just make sure that if you ever do have an issue you notify me and check for the following: use CHROME as the browser, make sure that the initials of your child are written in lowercase letters NEVER USE UPPERCASE.

Parents of EL1 students make sure that students are doing I-Ready Math on Tuesdays and Thursdays and that Mondays and Wednesdays they complete Imagine Learning.

Our first home learning packet was sent home today. Please follow the directions on the front cover in order to complete the attached pages. DO NOT DO I-READY MATH OR I-READY READING AT HOME YET. WE ARE CURRENTLY TESTING STUDENTS AND THE ENTIRE CLASS HAS NOT COMPLETED TESTING. REMEMBER THIS ASSESSMENT PLACES YOUR CHILD AT THE GRADE LEVEL THEY ARE WORKING AT INDEPENDENTLY. WHEN WE DO START USING IT AT HOME, SET UP A TIMER FOR 15 MINUTES AND ALLOW THEM TO DO THEIR INDIVIDUAL LESSONS BY THEMSELVES. IF YOU HELP THEM, YOU ARE GOING TO GET THEM TO GET LESSONS THAT ARE TOO ADVANCED FOR THEM TO COMPLETE AND THEY WILL GET FRUSTRATED.

WE MADE IT THRU THE SECOND WEEK OF SCHOOL. REMEMBER THERE IS NO SCHOOL MONDAY, DUE TO LABOR DAY. PLEASE WATCH THE NEWS TO KEEP YOURSELF INFORMED ABOUT "DORIAN" AND IF CLASSES WILL RESUME ON TUESDAY OF NEXT WEEK.

PLEASE STAY SAFE!!!

Welcome to Bob Graham Education Center, home of the Bobcats! I am excited to have your child in my classroom this year and will try my best to work closely with you and your child to begin to build a firm foundation in his/her educational endeavors.

Here are a few announcements:

On the first day of school parents will be allowed in the building and classrooms. On the second day of school parents will be allowed to enter the building with their child and wait in the hallways with their child if they choose to do so, in order for your child to familiarize him/herself with where and how they are to sit outside their teacher's classroom, but your child will be expected to enter the classroom on his/her own. Trust me when I tell you that if there are cryers, they will stop a lot faster if you are not around. Starting the 3rd day of school, Closed Campus begins, NO PARENTS WILL BE ALLOWED INTO THE BUILDING. Students will be supervised by teachers in the hallway until it is time for them to enter their classroom. This is for the safety of all the children.

Your child is to come to school each and everyday in their school uniform, unless a dress down day has been approved by administration. The school uniform consist of a navy blue or gold polo shirt or t-shirt, with navy blue or khaki bottoms (shorts, skorts or long pants). School uniforms can be purchased at Ibiley Uniforms in Hialeah. I will inform you of dates when and if PTSA informs us.

Please make sure to send in your child's school supplies in a bag labeled with his/her first and last name. I do not want them inside the students backpacks. This will make it easier for me to collect and then sort out for them. Please make sure they have a regular sized backpack ( not too large or too small). Also make sure their backpacks DO NOT HAVE WHEELS. These are not permitted.

The cost to purchase lunch daily is $2.25. Your child has the option to bring a lunch box as well. If your child is bringing their lunch please make sure to label there lunch box with their name just in case there are other students with the same lunch box. Parents are encouraged to pay for lunch on line so students do not have to carry money around.

If you are interested in applying for free or reduced lunch, please fill out a lunch application on line at:

https://freeandreducedmealapp.dadeschools.net

All students will be expected to memorize their student ID number. Please make sure to practice this with them, they will need it to purchase lunch as well as to log-in to their student portal.

Spanish classes will NOT begin due to ESOL testing. Once the spanish teachers have completed the ESOL testing, then Spanish classes will begin. ONLY ESOL  (EL) students will be receiving Spanish.

I will be sending your child home with a temporary red folder on the first day of school, until they have brought in their supplies. Your child is to come to school with this folder in his/her backpack everyday. This will be my way of communicating with you for the first couple of weeks until I set up your child's BEE (Bring Everything Everyday) BINDER. Make sure to check the folder everyday for any forms that I may need you to sign and return to me. REMOVE any papers or forms on the left side of the folder and make sure to RETURN any forms that are placed on the right side as soon as possible.

When filling out forms make sure to write your phone and email address legibly.Sometimes it is difficult for me to determine if a letter or number has been written.

SAVE THE DATE: Our OPEN HOUSE is scheduled for  Tuesday, Sept. 10 and will take place between at 5:30 to 6:30, here at the PLC in our classroom. Please make accomodations for your child, as this event is for PARENTS ONLY. This is not the time for individual conferences. I will be giving general information regarding, home learning, I-ready reading and math program, imagine learning program for my EL level 1 students ONLY, as well as attendance policies, emergency contact and updated information, dismissal and arrival, etc. to name a few. Hope to see many of you there.
